Bearing Capacity Enhancement
The present study investigates the improvement in the bearing capacity of silty clay soil with thin sand layer on top and placing geogrids at different depths. Model tests were performed for a rectangular footing resting on top of the soil to establish the load versus settlement curves of unreinforced and reinforced soil system. The test results focus on the improvement in bearing capacity of silty clay and sand on unreinforced and reinforced soil system in non-dimensional form, that is, BCR.
Rock Bolting
Rock bolting is the systematic reinforcment and/or anchorage of rock slopes by the insertion and grouting of steel bars into holes predrilled into the more or less fractured rock mass, improving its stability. Rock bolts have been used for many years as temporary roof support in the mining industry and for tunneling, and are now used routinely for stabilizing roadcuts, rock cliffs, steep slopes, bridge abutments, and reinforced concrete dams.
Soil Nailing
Soil Nail/ Rock Bolt is a remedial measure to treat unstable soil or rock slopes. This technique involves Drilling and insertion of reinforcing bar i.e. Solid bar and Hollow bar ( Self Drilling Anchor) and then grouting. Soil Nails/ Rock Bolts are more effective using less space than conventional methods protecting slopes. Soil nails / Rock Bolt are easy to install than conventional protection walls on difficult access locations.
